PURPOSE:To provide the method for producing an SiC powder compact, excellent in compacting, releasability and capable of providing an SiC powder compact excellent in processability and also capable of readily obtaining a high- density SiC sintered body excellent in flexural strength by the sintering method. CONSTITUTION:The SiC powder compact is obtained by adding 0.3 to 5.0 pts.wt. polyvinyl butyral as a compacting binder to 100 pts.wt. total amount of powdery SiC, a sintering assistant and a phenol resin, adding 0.2 to 3.0 pts.wt. stearic acid as a release agent thereto, forming a slurry from the resultant mixture using a solvent, granulating it and compacting the resultant granulate. The obtained compact is defatted and sintered so as to obtain a sintered body. |
