RICE DEXTRIN ORAL REHYDRATION SOLUTION

PURPOSE: To prepare a rice dextrin oral rehydration solution(ORS) having better effects than those of an ORS of a conventional technique which has hitherto been used for treating acute diarrheic diseases of infants and to provide a method for producing the ORS and a therapeutic method for the acute diarrheic diseases of the infants. CONSTITUTION: This improved oral rehydration solution contains an electrolyte and a carbohyrate. The characteristic of the improvement comprises use of a rice dextrin having a glucose contour of a 50-90% short-chain glucose polymer having 2-6 glucose units as a carbohydrate component. A clarifying method for the rice dextrin for the purpose comprises (a) carrying out the enzymic hydrolysis at a neutral pH and thereby filtering the resultant solubilized rice carbohydrate obtained from a rice flour by the hydrolysis at 35-50 deg.C using a filter aid and then (b) performing the second filtration thereof at >80 deg.C using the filter aid and active carbon. The therapy for the acute diarrheic diseases of the infants comprises orally administering the rice dextrin oral rehydration solution to the infants.
