PRODUCTION OF CYCLIC CARBONATE COMPOUND

PURPOSE:To obtain a cyclic carbonate compound useful as a feedstock for thermoplastic reaction-molding polymers without the need for using phosgene by reaction of an aromatic dihydroxyl compound with a carbonate compound in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula III can be obtained by reaction of a compound of formula I (X and Y are each lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, aryl, nitro or halogen; m and n are each 0-4) with a compound of formula II (Ar and Ar' are each monovalent aromatic group) in the presence of an ester interchange catalyst (e.g. dialkyltin oxide) at 180-380 deg.C. The respective numbers of moles for the compounds of the formulas I and II to be used are virtually the same with each other, and the amount of the catalyst to be used is 0.0001-10mol% based on the compound of the formula I.
