RESIN COMPOSITION FOR LAMINATE AND LAMINATE PREPARED BY USING THE SAME

PURPOSE:To obtain a prepreg which can give a laminate of improved cracking resistance by impregnating a base with a resin composition essentially consisting of a specified epoxy resin, a curing agent and a polysiloxane compound containing a phenolic hydroxyl group. CONSTITUTION:At least part of an epoxy resin containing at least two epoxy groups in the molecule (e.g. bisphenol A epoxy resin) is reacted with a phenolic- hydroxyl-containing polysiloxane compound of the formula [wherein R is methyl, phenyl or the like; and X is R1C6H4OH (wherein R1 is ethylene or the like)] and having a phenolic hydroxyl equivalent of 500-5000 in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. 2-methylimidazole) in a solvent (e.g. toluene) at 100-160 deg.C to obtain a pre-reaction product in which at least 90% of the phenolic hydroxyl groups have been reacted. This product is mixed with an epoxy compound of the same kind and a curing agent (e.g. polyphenol) in an amount to give an equivalent ratio to the epoxy groups of 0.7-1.2 to obtain a resin composition for laminates. Prepregs prepared by impregnating bases with this composition are laminated and molded to form a laminate.
