PURPOSE:To produce an alpha-olefin polymer improved in adhesive properties, printability, hydrophilicity, and compatibility with other polymers by copolymerizing an alpha-olefin with a specific polar vinyl monomer in the presence of a Ziegler catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A polar vinyl monomer of formula I [wherein Y is a 3-20C hydrocarbon group; Z is -NH2, -NHR<1> (wherein R<1> is a 1-20C hydrocarbon group),-OH, or-COOH; and m is 1-3] is brought into contact with an organoaluminum compd. of formula II (wherein R<2>, R<3>, and R<4> are each alkyl or aryl) in an amt. at least equimolar to the amt. of polar groups of the vinyl monomer at 0-200 deg.C to give a complexed monomer. An alpha-olefin and 0.01-30mol% the complexed monomer are copolymerized in the presence of a Ziegler catalyst comprising a titanium trichloride compd. and an organoaluminum compd. under 0-50 atm. pressure at 0-150 deg.C. |
