The press section of a papermaking machine, for the prodn. of thin paper, has a simple blanket press, as the final unit with a smooth continuous surface on the side carrying the paper, which transfers the paper web in the absence of a free path to the next section of the papermaking machine. Pref. papermaking machine section following the press unit is a drying cylinder. A penultimate gap at the smooth continuous surface is formed by a roller with a blanket mantle, and the smooth surface, using a suction roller with a blanket mantle. USE/ADVANTAGE - The appts. is for mfg. thin papers with one side, or tissue. The assembly gives the transfer action on the web to the section after the press units, with lower equipment costs, and reduced web breakage.
