PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound useful as an intermediate for drugs, agricultural chemicals, animal drugs, etc., from an arylamine in high yield without preparing a waste acid by using an alkyl nitride in the presence of hydrogen chloride, sulfur dioxide and copper compound. CONSTITUTION:An arylamine shown by formula I (Ar is substituted or nonsubstituted aryl) is reacted with usually 1-5mols, especially 1-2mols (based on 1mol of the compound shown by formula I) of an alkyl nitride shown by formula II (R<1> is 2-10C alkyl; Y is 0 or S; a is 1 or 2) in the presence of hydrogen chloride, sulfur dioxide and a copper compound in a solvent such as acetone usually at 0-50 deg.C, especially 0-25 deg.C to give a compound shown by formula III. A hydrogen chloride gas is preferable as hydrogen chloride and the amount of the hydrogen chloride used is 1-1.5mol based on 1mol of the compound shown by formula I. Sulfur dioxide may be in a liquid or gas state and cupric oxide is preferable as the copper compound. |
