Trays such as 1 in a gas/liquid contact column have apertures such as 12 each with a valve-assembly comprising a plurality of caps at least the lower or lowermost of which has a central opening covered at least a part in the rest position of the valve by the or an upper cap. As shown in Fig. 1 two caps 2 and 4 are provided, the cap 2 having a central opening 3 and both caps legs 5 which serve as travel-limiting means. The caps 4 and 2 may have a series of small openings in a central and peripheral region their surfaces respectively. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the cap 2 has no legs 5 and travelstops are provided on the upper surface of the tray. In a further modification (Fig. 6) the legs 5 pass through openings in the cap 2 and are bent over at each end. In this case the legs 5 may be welded to cap 2 or 4 or as shown be secured to the cap 2 between spacers 7 and lugs 11. The cap 2 may have a number, e.g. three, of openings in its central region instead of a single central opening. |
