The process comprises (a) addn. of L-aspartic acid to a basic soln. in a lower alcohol and adding keto-ester to obtain Dane salt soln.; (b) addn. to an organic solvent at a temp. which produces azeotropic micro-distn., resulting in granular cryatalline residues; (c) activation with cpds. contg-active chlorine; (d) acylation with L-phenylamine methyl ester; (e) reaction with an acid in presence of NaCl, crystallising alpha-apsartame hydrochloride; and (f) soln. in a lower alcohol, decolorising, filtering, adjusting to pH 2.2 and cooling for crystallisation of the alpha-aspartame. |
