A steering mechanism consists of a steering gear nut which may also take the form of a working piston (2) guided in a gearcase (1) and movable over a steering pivot. A rack-type toothed gear (2A) machined in the working piston (2) engages with a toothed segment (3) of a sector shaft (4). The sector shaft (4) is supported in two eccentric bearing bushes (5, 6) which are rotated in drillings in their casings to adjust the tooth engagement. On the bearing bushes (5, 6) are fitted annular attachments (14 or 15) which are locked in casing grooves (16, 17) after the gearing has been adjusted to form convex sections (18, 20). According to the invention, projections (30, 31) shaped on a safety component and bevelled to match the convex sections engage with the latter. The projections (30, 31) prevent the convex sections (18, 20) from being distorted under overloads. Spring rings (23, 24) are fitted to secure the bearing bushes (5 and 6) axially. Thus the position of the bearing bushes (5 and 6) in relation to the casing (1) is properly set. |
