[Also in Division A4] A polishing pad comprises a lofty non woven mat of crimped fibres of 10-50 diameter bonded by a binder having a knoop hardness of no more than 3 which contains 10-60% of a finely divided mineral filler having a knoop hardness of no more than 150. The fibres may be polyethylene terephthalate, optionally blended with rayon. The fibrous mat can be needled prior to bonding. The binder may be polyurethane or polyacrylate applied as a solution or emulsion. The filler may be talc, silica, kaolin or calcium carbonate. The pad can have flock fibres adhered to one face or may be treated on one face with polyvinyl alcohol. |
