In a ball and socket connection between a piston and connecting rod 4 the socket 3 has a spherical seating 13 and a cylindrical extension 15 which latter is flanged over the ball 5 during assembly and has a layer 19 of resilient material on its inner surface. The socket 3 fits in an insert 2 having a flange 9 engaging a recess 7 in the end of the piston body 1, the parts 1 and 2 being soldered together and the space 12 between them being filled with a gas e.g. CO 2 . The layer 19 may be of plastics material such as fluorized polyethylenes, e.g. P.T.F.E. or polytrifluorochloroethylene, or polyamide or polyurethane. |
