[Also in Division C7] Anti friction or friction materials for use as thin wall bearings or clutch facings are made by sintering or brazing spherical Fe particles with the whole or part of the amount of Cu required in the friction or anti-friction layer, in a single layer to a backing member such as steel strip, and then compacting a powder mixture of Pb and graphite or Pb-Cu and graphite on to the layer to form a finished layer consisting of 10-70% Pb., 10-80% Cu, up to 5% graphite and balance Fe. The layer may be heated in an inert gas at 300‹ C.</p> |
