PURPOSE: To enhance the reproducibility to obtain images having high image quality by maintaining the pH of a developing soln. at a specified range by an oxidation reduction device at the time of developing an exposed radiation photosensitive silver halide material by an ascorbic acid developing soln. CONSTITUTION: The exposed radiation photosensitive silver halide material is developed by the an ascorbic acid developing soln. of the formula in such a manner that the activity of the developing soln. is maintained at a specified level by addition of an alkali thereto. At this time, the addition of the alkali is automatically controlled by a pH controller. Namely, the measurement of pH is executed by an oxidation reduction electrode device 2 having a carbon electrode/calomel reference electrode. The developer A in a developing soln. tank 3 is added to a developing tank 1 by a pump 4. The alkaline soln. B in a tank 5 is added to the developing tank 1 by a pump 6 controlled by an electrode device 2, by which the pH in the developing tank 1 is kept constant at all times. |
