PURPOSE:To automatically decide the optimum scale value of the two kinds of large and small Laplacian-Gaussian filter by calculating the filter scale while utilizing relation between the degree of eccentricity and the diameter of a receiving field. CONSTITUTION:At a filter scale extraction part 6, a visual angle decision part 7 fetches an input gradation image 1 and decides the visual angle. A filter scale calculation part 8 calculates the fix filter scales corresponding to the relation between the diameter of the receiving field and the degree of eccentricity (a distance from the center of a visual field). Among the six filter scales, the minimum filter scale is defined as a small filter scale sigmaa optimum for extracting the precise edge of the image by a filter scale selection part 9. Among the filter scales for which the damage ratio of a peripheral visual field is lower than a fixed value, the maximum filter scale is defined as a large filter scale sigmab optimum for extracting the rough edge. Then, these filter scales sigmaa and sigmab are supplied to an edge extraction part 2. |
