PURPOSE:To provide a three-dimensional CAD system capable of simplifying the switching of working planes at every designing cross section or the procedure of dividing graphic elements into groups. CONSTITUTION:This system is provided with a graphic element data base 4 for storing the graphic element data of a three-dimensional construction, cross- sectional shape data base 5 for storing data concerning the arbitrary cross section of the three-dimensional construction and shape processing part 3 for performing the various kinds of shape processing by exchanging information with both data bases 4 and 5 and the cross-sectional shape data base 5 is provided with a cross section name storage column for specifying the cross section to be a layout object, work plane number storage column for specifying the work plane including the cross section, element number storage column for specifying graphic elements constituting the cross section and group name storage column for specifying the group to include the graphic elements.
