The double-twist cabling machine, incorporating a rotary separator (24) with channels for the cable strands (12) in between the twisting mechanism (18) and the receiving spool (19), has the separator subjected to the action of a couple generator (32) designed to apply a motor couple to it in its direction of rotation. The couple generator is incorporated in a transmission system (33) which has a transmission ratio of at least 2:1 and pref. about 2.2:1. The couple generator can be in the form of a sliding coupling or an electromagnetic powder clutch, with the magnetic field variable by means of a potentiometer. ADVANTAGE - Forms cables with more regular strands and correct positioning.
