The tool has an electric motor with a central stator (2) and an outer rotor (5) which carries an abrasive material. The tool is equipped with a handle (17) and a rigid arm (15) linking it to the stator. The stator (2) has a central axial aperture, and the rotor (5) is basically in the form of a cylinder mounted on a coaxial central shaft which passes through the stator aperture. The shaft is equipped with electromagnets which interact with those of the stator to drive the rotor. The cylinder is connected to the shaft by a fixing (9, 10) at one end, and the rigid arm is connected to the stator at the opposite end. The stator and rotor can be made from commercially available electric motor components, with bearings (11, 12) between their facing cylindrical surfaces. The connection between the rotor and central shaft (4) can be in the form of a disc at one end of the cylinder, the outer face (6) of which can be coated with an abrasive material. The rigid arm is connected to the stator and handle by lockable articulated joints (14, 16), and the handle can be equipped with a control switch (18). ADVANTAGE - Lower manufacturing cost without reduction in performance.
