PURPOSE:To realize a connecting method of high reliability by covering the contact part of optical fibers with fused glass. CONSTITUTION:This optical fiber connecting method is provided with a first process (steps 101, 102) of bringing the end parts of a first optical fiber and a second optical fiber rid of coating into butting contact and disposing glass material, having a lower fusing point than the transition point of the first and second optical fibers, in the vicinity of the contact part; a second process of fusing only the glass material (step 103) by heating the glass material at the temperature lower than the transition point and not lower than the fusing point so as to cover the contact part of the first and second optical fibers with the glass material; a third process of solidifying the glass material (step 105) so as to maintain the contact state of the first and second optical fibers by the solidified glass material; and a fourth process of protecting the contact part, covered with the glass material, by a protecting member (step 106). |
