Besides a first gate (3) for discharging liquids, a centrifugal drum (1) has a second gate (6) for discharging the separated solids. An overflowing edge (8) provided for the solids is located at at least the same radial distance from the axis of the drum as an overflowing edge (5) for the liquids formed by the first gate (3). The length of the overflowing edge (5) of the first gate (3) and the length of the overflowing edge (8) of the second gate (6) have the same mutual ratio as the volume flows to be deflected over the overflowing edges. Because of the hydraulic pressure reigning in the centrifugal drum, the product streams flowing out of the centrifugal drum are subdivided, so that the desired concentration is obtained at the solid side. If the inflowing amount fluctuates, changing the level of liquid in the centrifugal drum, this change has a proportional effect at both gates (3 and 6), i.e. the ratio between the solid concentrate and the separated liquid does not change, so that the solid concentration also remains constant.
