<p>Compounds of formula (I), (II), or (III) wherein: R1 is lower alkyl when R2 is V; or R2 is lower alkyl when R1 is V; wherein: V is (A); R3 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; X is hydrogen, lower alkyl, halogen, -C(O)CF¿3?, -CO2R?4¿, or -C(O)NR5R6; Y is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, hydroxy, halogen, or -CO¿2R?4; Z is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, or halogen; with the proviso that Y and Z cannot be attached to the nitrogen atom in formula (II); in which R4 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R5 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, or -CH¿2?CO2R?4; R6¿ is hydrogen or lower alkyl; or R?5 and R6¿ taken together with the nitrogen to which they are attached represent a heterocycle; R7 is (B); (C); (D); (E); (F); (G); (H) or (J); in which: R8 is -CO¿2?H or 1H-tetrazol-5-yl; and W is oxygen, sulfur, or -NR-, wherein R is hydrogen or lower alkyl; and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, exhibit useful pharmacological properties, and are particularly useful as angiotensin (II) antagonists.</p> |
