A series of horizontally extending drainage pipes (12) forming a grid system are located at or below the level of a plume of liquid contamination (14). The drainage recovery pipes (12) skim off water from water surrounding them, along with the plume of contamination (14). The recovered water is pumped from the ground and pumping unit (20) and delivered to a conventional treatment system where it is cleaned. This cleaned water is reintroduced over the pipes (12) to flush out any remaining contaminants. Once the reintroduced water reaches the area around pipes (12), remaining liquid contaminants which are usually less dense than water rise towards the surface of the water and are then removed by pipes (12).
|
