The housing (12) has a central opening (20) for the purpose of fixing the end of a rotating flexible drive shaft to its outer casing (13). There is an opening (14) in the side of the housing (12) through which the end of the trimmer line protrudes radially from the line spool which is inside the housing. The protruding line is on a level with the line of cut (10) and there is an eye (50) surrounding the opening (14) of wear resistant material to guide the line between the twin projections of a line guard (23). The surfaces of the guard projections which face the line opening (14) are rounded to a radius of 8 mm. ADVANTAGE - Prevents undue wear around the line opening and also unwanted snapping of the line.
