A process for the transport, storage and dosing of granular or powdery hygroscopic explosive solids, incorporates the following steps: - Storage of the solids (6) in a large silo (1) under slightly above-ambient pressure. - transport of the solid (6) by means of a gas flow, which is in a circuit between the silo (1) outlet (5) and a cyclone (3) at the supply point (2), and in which cyclone (3) the separation of the solids (6) is effected. Pref. the cyclone (3) is arranged in association with the smaller dosing silo (2) from which the supply point is charged. The storage silo (1) may be transported and delivered in a charged condition. Alternatively the storage silo (1) may be fixed, and is recharged as required from a silo tip-up truck into which gas is blown as the powder empties. The gas passes through the truck silo to exit through a high-positioned filter (8) and valve (9). The solid charge (6) passes from the silo truck (7) to the storage silo (1) by means of a transporting gas flowing on a circular path between the truck outlet (7) and cyclone (3) at the storage silo (1) inlet, the load (6) being separated from the gas flow at this point. USE - The process facilitates the transport, storage and dosing of granular, hygroscopic explosive solids. The process minimises the packaging and manual handling requirements during transport and storage, and facilitates long-term storage in the face of sharply fluctuating demand.
