The power switch includes two facing contact pieces (1,2) at a fixed distance from each other and a moveable bridging switch piece (3). A mechanical compression system for a quenching gas has an insulating material cylinder (4) which surrounds the contact pieces in the closed position. A first driveable cylinder floor (5) compresses the quenching gas during the disconnecting movement. A further cylinder floor (6) is also included in the compression system.
