An inexpensive, lightweight, compressible and fire resistant mine stopping material (10) is formed in blocks of paperboard or paper such as kraft having honeycomb shaped hollow cells (32) in the interiors (26) of the blocks. The stopping material (10) may be used in all applications of presently employed compressible mine stopping materials (10) while providing the advantages of low cost, heat and flame resistance, resistance to humidity, increased compressibility and ease of application when employed in constructing mine stopping walls either entirely of the stopping materials (10), or in combination with rigid, substantially incompressible blocks. |
