<p>A solar energy collector has an absorber facing the sun with a circulating fluid which is heated up by the radiation. The fluid passes through a zig-zag metal pipe (e.g. copper) which is embedded in the absorber plate, made from black-coloured or epoxidised material. The faceplate and backplate on either side of the pipe form a hermetically-sealed housing. The intervening space is filled with an inert gas which has low thermal conductivity and little tendency to convect. Especially suitable is a noble gas like argon, krypton or xenon. The faceplate is transparent (e.g. glass) and the backplate can be glass or metal. The distance between faceplate and absorber plate is about 8 mm. ADVANTAGE - Highly efficient, easily assembly and prevents occurrence of condensation.</p>
