A bag (1) with a filler valve (2), essentially a sheath of heat sealable plastic material, is closed hermetically by first gripping the surfaces of the bag on either side of the corner (10) nearest the valve in such a way as to flatten the mouth (20), applying mechanical pressure to the appropriate point from opposite directions through intersecting circular trajectories (T, T') of which the radii are directed away from the bag, then securing the mouth by means of a heat generating device (30, 31) such as an ultrasonic sealer, which is incorporated together with the gripping mechanism (32, 33) into a single station; prior to the gripping and sealing steps, the filled bag can be tilted horizontal and compacted by applying pressure to the broader front and rear faces (11). <IMAGE> |
