The invention relates to a process for recovery of a carboxylate ester reaction product from a reaction mixture further comprising an azeotrope-forming alcohol precursor and further impurities, by fractionating the reaction mixture into a carboxylate ester product-containing stream and a first azeotrope stream; adding sufficiently additional azeotrope-forming alcohol precursor to the first azeotrope stream for providing a total concentration of the alcohol in excess of its azeotropic concentration; and fractionating the alcohol-enriched stream into a second azeotrope stream for recycle to a reaction step and a first residu stream for disposal.
