<p>A locking mechanism 10 comprises a plurality of spring loaded tines 26 disposed around an armature 20. The armature 20 has a disc 24 mounted thereon the radially outer surface 25 of which is profiled. The armature 22 is coupled to a solenoid 20 which is selectively energised to move the armature 20. In a locked position the profiled surface 25 of the disc 24 urges the spring loaded tines 26 outwardly into engagement with a locking cup 16. In an unlocked position the armature 22 moves the disc 24 into a position so that the profiled surface 25 allows the tines 26 to spring inwardly so they can be withdrawn from the locking cup 16. A spring loaded housing 28 is provided which holds the tines 26 and the armature 22 in the unlocked position so that the locking mechanism 10 can re-engage in the event of a power failure to the solenoid 20. A pin 32 is provided so that the solenoid 20 can be overriden manually. <IMAGE></p> |
