Disclosed is a log-splitting tool in the form of a conical continuously threaded screw auger, comprising a front driving section which defines an outer conical threaded surface having a predetermined tapering angle, an intermediate section which defines an outer frustoconical threaded surface having a tapering angle smaller than the above-mentioned predetermined angle and a rear section which defines an outer frustoconical threaded surface having a tapering angle greater than this predetermined angle. The above angles may be, respectively, about 16.degree., 10.degree. and 20.degree.. Also disclosed is a log-splitting machine which comprises a bench having a working table, a log-splitting tool of the type described above and a log-opener fixed to the table beneath the tool, rearwardly of the tool front section. The log-opener is formed of a vertical wall that extends axially of the tool and has a vertical pointed leading edge at one end and a pair of opening ears at the other end. Each of the ears projects laterally angularly from one side of the wall.
