STEREOSELECTIVE PRODUCTION OF ALDONONITRILE

PURPOSE:To obtain a stereoisomer in a short time even in a low concentration by subjecting an aldononitrile derivative to isomerization by equilibrium reaction in a basic aqueous solution in the presence of only polar organic solvent or only nonpolar organic solvent selected according to the purpose. CONSTITUTION:An aldononitrile derivative expressed by formula I (R1 is H or OH; R2 is OH when R1 is H and R2 is H when R1 is OH; R3 is OH protecting group; n is >=0) and protected in OH group is subjected to isomerization by equilibrium reaction in a basic aqueous solution in the presence of only nonpolar solvent when an aldononitrile derivative wherein R1 is OH and R3 is H is obtained and in the presence of only polar organic solvent when an aldononitrile derivative wherein R1 is H and R2 is OH is obtained to provide the objective stereoisomer of formula II.
