PURPOSE:To obtain a pyridine derivative exhibiting an angiotensin II receptor antagonism and useful, e.g. as a medicine for improving hypertension, congestive heart failure, etc., by reacting a 3-formylpyridine derivative with a halogenated biphenyl compound and subsequently hydrolyzing it. CONSTITUTION:An aldehyde compound represented by formula I (R1 to R4 are each H, a lower alkyl, a lower alkenyl, a hydroxymethyl, hydroxy, carboxymethyl, nitro, methoxy, sulfonylamino or a halogen) is reacted with a halogenated biphenyl expressed by formula II [X is a halogen; R6 is a group of formula III or IV (Ph is phenyl)] followed by a reaction with a pyridin-3''-yl- methylbiphenyl compound of formula V. As necessary, the resultant compound is hydrolyzed, thus producing the objective pyridine derivative represented by formula VI (R<5> is carboxy or tetrazole), exhibiting an angiotensin II receptor antagonism and useful as a medicine for improving hypertension and congestive heart failure or as a medicine for lowering the intraocular pressure. |
