PURPOSE:To obtain a zirconia ceramic highly resistant to thermal shock, capable of easily giving large-sized sintered compacts by baking a feedstock composition containing each specified amount of Y2O3 as stabilizer and zirconia fibers. CONSTITUTION:The objective ceramic can be obtained by baking a feedstock composition containing <2mol% of Y2O3 as stabilizer and <=30wt.% of zirconia fibers. From this ceramic, even large-sized sintered compacts can favorably be produced without developing any cracks. Also, one of the reasons why these sintered compacts have high thermal shock resistance is that the Y2O3 content thereof is low, therefore, denseness of the texture is low. Nevertheless, these sintered compacts have mechanical strength at a specified level or higher; this is owing to the reinforcing effect and toughness-raising effect of the zirconia fibers incorporated. Another reason why the present ceramic is excellent in thermal shock resistance may be owing to its low thermal expansion coefficient. |
