PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst having high combustion activity and excellent heat resistance by mixing an aluminum alkoxide and a silicon alcoxide in a specified ratio, subjecting the mixture to a reaction in glycol and depositing a platinum-group metal on the synthesized silicon-modified alumina. CONSTITUTION:An aluminum alkoxide and a silicon alkoxide are mixed in 5-60 atomic ratio of Al/Si, and the mixture is subjected to a reaction at 200-400 deg.C in glycol. The reactional product is calcined at 500-1500 deg.C, and a platinum-group metal is deposited on the produced silica-modified alumina. Since the silica-modified alumina as the catalyst carrier maintains a large surface area even after calcination at >=500 deg.C, especially at 1200 deg.C, the catalyst obtained by depositing an active metal on the carrier has high combustion activity and excellent heat resistance.
|
