1,118,677. Endless track locomotives. BERTIN & CIE. 14 Jan., 1966 [15 Jan., 1965], No. 1872/66. Heading B7H. [Also in Divisions B3, B8, E1, F2 and H2] In an endless track vehicle 1 running on T- section rails 5, adhesion of the tracks 3, carried on pairs of driving wheels (2) having pneumatic tyres (Fig. 3, not shown), is promoted by air cushions acting on the inner faces of the tracks 3 to press them against the rails 5. The air cushions are formed in carriages 7 articulated to the vehicle 1 and supplied with compressed air at 8. Cushions 12 acting on the undersides of the rails 5 and maintained by the carriages 7 react the force produced by the upper cushions. Alternatively the reaction is provided by wheels (11) on the carriages (Figs. 1, 2, not shown). In Fig. 5 (not shown) the driving wheels (2) are raised clear of the rails 5, adhesion of the endless tracks on the rails being due solely to the air cushions. |
