摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To prevent picture quality from being degraded at the time of error generation with simple hardware configuration by providing an error detecting means specific to run length decoding. CONSTITUTION:Data are inputted to an input terminal and decoded to run length codes by an entropy decoder 733. At a run length decoder 751, run length decoding is performed, the codes are outputted to an inverse zig-zag scanner 737, and the number of conversion coefficients is outputted to a counter 753. At the counter 753, the number of conversion coefficients is counted for each prescribed period. A comparator 757 compares a value inputted from a processing unit setter 755 with the counter 753 and when they are not coincident, the comparator judges the existence of error and outputs the judged result to a delayer 759. On the other hand, an inverse conversion encoder 741 outputs inversely converted picture elements to a terminal (a) and a frame memory 761. Corresponding to the judged result from the delayer 759, a switch 763 selects the terminal (a) when there is no error or selects a terminal (b) when there is any error.</p>
