A device for joining stacked objects by application of heat and pressure comprises :- (a) a heating unit having a rigid metal pressure plate (3), on a frame (1), inside which are features (4) e.g. heat exchange pipes. The plate (3) contacting the under side (2) of the stacked objects; and (b) a pressure unit applied to the upper surface of the stack having; an inflatable envelope (9) applied to the frame (1); an elastomer block (11); and a deformable metal sheet (12), pref. alummium alloy, between the block (11) and stack. The metal sheet ensures even temp. and pressure distribution over the stack of objects. USE/ADVANTAGE - Assembly of composite materials by welding or glueing allowing even distribution of temp. and pressure to give constant high quality joints.
