The sealing cap has a screw thread or bayonet-type coupling by which it is secured to the boss round an inspection opening, being particularly for use on a pressure vessel. It has a central thrust bearing supporting a sealing disc, equipped with a seal on its face towards the boss. The bearing is in the form of a rivet (3), positively securing the disc (5), and allowing only a slight amount of axial movement between this and the cap (1). The disc is a thin-walled part-spherical socket section, convex towards the outside. The design protects the seal from mechanical loading, maintaining a tight joint for long periods, and allowing safe opening of a vessel under pressure. |
