The cylinder tube (2) and the cylinder lid attachment (5) each have on their facing cylinder surfaces a ring groove (9,10) of which one is axially wider than the other. The two ring grooves are symmetrical relative to a radial plane of symmetry and contain the elastic sealing ring (11) which is similarly symmetrical and has a rectangular ring section (12) practically filling out the axially narrower groove (9). Inclined sealing flanges (13,14) extending from the rectangular ring section pass into the sections of the wider groove projecting axially into the narrower groove and are supported on the cylindrical base face. USE/ADVANTAGE - Only two sealing ring grooves are necessary. During dismantling the cylinder tube and cover remain intact and only a new ring need be fitted for subsequent use.
