The steering system has a pinion (2), which is held turnable and limited axially displaceable in a steering housing (1). The pinion meshes with a toothed rack in the housing. A control device (14) is actuated by an axial movement of the pinion. Two radial bearings (4,5) are provided for the pinion. The roller bodies in the bearings are partially formed by cylindrical rollers (16) and partially by rows of balls (17). The bodies are guided in pockets of a cage (15), with at least three pockets contg. balls. The dia. of the balls is slightly larger than that of the rollers. USE/ADVANTAGE - Reduced friction to improve vehicle steering sensitivity.
