An auxiliary piling device is provided with chains (1) which after imposition on supporting elements (44) are capable of carrying the wt. of the pile (37) of sheets on a board (36) carried by a pallet (38). The chains are positioned horizontally by a guide (13) with the first link resting on a rod which is driven from a starting position (50.1) to a finishing position (50.2) across the top of the pile by a transporter in synchronism with the rotation of the chain drive motor which is controlled by a control appts. in response to a board outer edge sensor. ADVANTAGE - Automatic exchange appts. is simple in construction and control, occupies little space and introduces negligible risk to safe operation, without detriment to sheet quality and exact piling.
