Electochemical cells are prepd. with a number of composite boards from a diaphragm with a porous electrode layer on each side where an electroconducting dividing wall is formed in oxygen which divides the room into a cathode room and an anode room, with an electroconducting mat placed at least between the electrode layer formed in oxygen and the dividing wall. The composite boards (5, 6, 7) are used such that the electrode layer comprises a sintered metal layer, and on positioning the mat in contact with the metal layer, a metal powder or metal oxide powder is coated, where an electroconducting bond to the mat with the metal layer is formed by sintering the metal powder in a non-oxidising atmos. and the metal oxide powder in a reductive atmos. at a temp. below the recrystallisation temp. of the sintered metal layer. USE/ADVANTAGE -Flawless conduction is obtd. at reduced cost. Useful as electrolysis cells and fuel cells (claimed).
