Correcting position of top dead centre reference marker in IC engine - using pressure variation measurement relating to crankshaft angle without combustion operation at different positions of marker and calculating pressure differences.

The variation in the pressure in the combustion chamber of an engine cylinder is measured depending on the crankshaft angle and during non-combustion operation. The pressure variation is stored and related to a stored reflective marker. Difference pressure values are determined for various marker positions and are compared to determine the smallest difference from null. This corresp. to the top dead centre point of the marker which is used to correct the reference marker position. USE/ADVANTAGE - Pref. for correcting top dead centre reference markers in internal combustion engines. Very accurate reference marker positions can be achieved with less accurate transducer discs.
