The stencil inking (1) is open at its underside and has at least one edge (3a) to abut tightly a printing plate (15). Inside the inking vessel is a guide face (10a) for the ink levelling. Pref. the guide face is a drive, or a plate (10). Typically there is a through aperture in the plate etc. for the ink passage. The vessel may have an inner extension (5), on which the plate is releasably secured. The plate may have a floating mounting. The guide face may be spaced from the printing plate edge by not more than 5 mm. ADVANTAGE - No need for frequent filling of the vessel, and facility for uniform ink supply.
