This system concerns the error correction and decoding of digital video cassette recorders and an error correction and decoding system that is vastly superior in the systems error correction skills. The system provides an error correction method by reducing the burst error of the 1st decoding, thus improving the loss- correction skills during the second decoding. This system is composed of a 1st step which calculates the vertical input data syndrome, a 2nd step (23) which corrects vertical errors, a 3rd step (24), a 4th step (25), a 5th step which adds burst error flags (27), a 6th step which generates data in a vertical direction and a 7th step for executing the loss-correction in the vertical direction.
