A method of repairing a turbine blade which includes performing a heating operation on the blade in which the blade is heated to achieve a predetermined temperature distribution, sensing the temperature of the blade at least at one position by temperature sensing means and controlling the application of heat in accordance with the temperature determined by said at least one sensing means and monitoring the temperature of the blade at a location adjacent said at least one position with a monitoring means. The area of the blade surrounding the part to be repaired is covered with heating mats 30-35. Each mat comprises a continuous conductor 36 passing through ceramic beads 37. The control unit 50 is provided with inputs 52-56 from temperature sensing means 57-61. At least one monitoring means 75a-63a is provided for each mat. The monitoring circuit may be used to provide a display, an audible or visible warning, or may be used to control or disable the control unit 50. <IMAGE> |
