The drive brake actuator has a housing (20) with a bottom (22) and casing (24) portions and a cylindrical bore (26), open to the brake. A hydraulic piston (30) in the bore is coaxial with a mechanical adjsuting shaft (34) working in a seal in the bottom, on which is a ramp (50) working against a fixed one (40) in the housing. A pair of struts (60,64) screw together to form an adjustable strut between the shaft ramp and the piston, and a prestressed axial return spring (90) acts between a fixed stop (92) in the housing and a stop (58) on one strut section, holding the shaft ramp in its rest position. The housing is integral and the fixed ramp is a plate, separate from the housing and supported on the bottom. The fixed stop is on an insert (84), on which one strut (60) is guided without turning. Common fixing (96) and locking devices (42) prevent the ramp and insert moving in the housing.
