The system comprises an input terminal for receiving a composite video signal. An encoder is coupled to the input terminal, for producing a luminance signal having attenuated high frequencies folded into low frequencies and bandwidth limited to the limited bandwidth. A signal includes a chrominance components and a motion component. The luminance signal is recorded and the chrominance and motion signals are recorded. A motion signal separator is coupled to the input terminal.
