The invention relates to a method and filling machine for making sausages by dividing a sausage string produced by means of a filling machine and issuing from a dividing device (6), for the purpose of more advantageous packaging sausages of equal length being produced in that the middle cylindrical part (measuring part) of the sausage is sensed by a measuring roller (10, 10) and length pulses are thereby generated, in that, simultaneously, the sausagemeat volume conveyed during this length measurement is converted into volume pulses, and in that the length pulses are compared with the volume pulses, after which the total numbers of volume pulses necessary for producing the desired length of the sausage are calculated in a control unit and, after the total number of volume pulses is reached, the ejection of the sausagemeat is stopped and the dividing operation is initiated. |
